When an AC stops cooling properly in a Dubai villa, the two things people ask for most are a "gas refill" or a "full service" — often without being sure which one the unit actually needs. They're not the same job, and booking the wrong one either wastes money or leaves the real problem unfixed. Here's how to tell them apart.
An AC runs on refrigerant gas that cycles through the system to move heat out of your home. Topping up that gas restores cooling — but only if the gas level genuinely dropped. And here's the part most homeowners miss: a sealed AC system doesn't "use up" gas the way a car uses fuel. If the level is low, gas has escaped somewhere, which means there's a leak.
Refilling without finding that leak is a short-term fix. The unit cools for a few weeks, the gas leaks out again, and you're back to a warm villa and a second bill. That's why a refill on its own is rarely the whole answer.
A full AC service is broader than gas. It typically includes cleaning the filters and coils, clearing the condensate drain line, checking the compressor and electrical connections, testing airflow and thermostat response, and inspecting for leaks. In Dubai's dust and heat, clogged coils and blocked drains cause far more "weak cooling" complaints than low gas does — a full service often solves the problem without touching the refrigerant at all.
Use symptoms as your guide, then let a technician confirm:
The honest answer for most villas that haven't been maintained recently is a full service first. It restores performance, and if gas is genuinely the issue, the technician finds and fixes the leak during the same visit rather than guessing. A gas refill treats a symptom; a full service finds the cause. If someone offers to "just add gas" without leak-testing, that's a red flag worth questioning. We always inspect before recommending, so you only pay for what your system actually needs.
